The Drin Core Group

The Drin Core Group (DCG) is given the mandate by the Ministers of the Riparians to coordinate actions for the implementation of the MoU.

The Drin Core Group comprises of duly nominated representatives of the:

(a)   Competent ministries of the Drin Riparians:

  • Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Water Administration, Albania
  • Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Greece
  • Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, the FYR Macedonia
  • Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Montenegro
  • Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Montenegro
  • Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Kosovo


(b)   Joint Commissions/Committees, namely the:

  • Prespa Park Management Committee
  • Lake Ohrid Watershed Committee
  • Lake Skadar-Shkoder Commission


(c)   UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)


(d)   Global Water Partnership Mediterranean (GWP-Med)


(e)   The Mediterranean Information Office for Environment Culture and Sustainable Development.


As provided by the MoU the decisions of the DCG are taken by the representatives of the Ministries of the Riparians on the basis of consensus.

The Drin Core Group has two ordinary meetings per year.

Secretariat of the Drin Core Group

The Secretariat provides technical and administrative support to the DCG assisting its day-to-day operation; this among others entails the following:

-          Undertaking actions for the organization of the meetings of the DCG and its Expert Working Groups i.e. preparation of background documentation and reports; logistical arrangements etc.

-          Day to day coordination of activities implemented under the DCG;

-          Preparation of technical reports;

-          Communication with third parties for the realization of the objectives of the DCG.

GWP-Med serves by appointment of the Parties as the Secretariat.
